CNC Desktop Milling Machine Candidate Design

As part of a team course design project, I designed a 4-axis entry-level desktop CNC milling machine intended for use in small design companies.

The milling machine is to be used for creating 3D prototypes. It is important that the designed milling machine is efficient, flexible, and accurate to create several different prototypes. Below, you can see one of the design candidates hand drawn and cadded by me. This design uses dovetail linear slides to support the linear motion of the bases in the x-axis and y-axis. As well, it uses a slider crank to convert the rotational input of the motor to linear output and translate the spindle housing in the z-direction, in the x-direction a belt drive and in the y-direction a power screw is used for the same purpose. This design features a 4-jaw chuck rotary table that allows for more flexibility for machining pieces. This project, improved my engineering decision-making, and cadding skills which will be useful in my future career.
